According to A Y Jackson, Dr Frederick Banting’s interest in painting manifested itself only after World War l. His important legacy in painting is therefore limited to a time frame of hardly two decades, years during which Banting, a co discoverer of insulin, was extraordinarily busy.

Featured in the Toronto, Hart House, University of Toronto, Exhibition of Paintings by the late Sir Frederick Banting, 13 February -1 March 1943. Under the title Ships in Harbour, Gloucester, Mass, it is one canvas of less than 3 dozen among the 240 works exhibited.
