In the absence of precise titles and locations indicated by Richard himself, as is more often than not the case, one can only hypothesize as to where the event took place. We speculate that Richard sketched the drawing in Ungava, maybe on the Korok River or George River, or perhaps closer to the coast. Similarly the identity of the trappers or hunters is only possible to guess. Innu? (Montagnais?) Probably. The significance of this Richard and others is the powerful, even brilliant hand of this original artist and his resulting paintings of regions that even today are as remote as they are glorious. One recalls the revelation of the beauties of isolated regions of Canada some members of the Group of Seven introduced to urban dwellers in the 1920s and for the ensuing 3 decades. None ventured to the regions Richard pioneered in his painting, which he did in a unique and appropriate style to the experiences he was painting.
