Painted in 1912, Masset, Q.C.I. is an exceptional representation of one of the subjects for which Carr is best known. One hundred and ten years after it was painted, the true significance of these images is only now being revealed.
Masset, Q.C.I., is an exceptionally fine painting. It is a rare work conceived during the brief period after Emily Carr had returned to Canada from France, and before she mostly ceased painting between 1912 and 1927. Carr is one of Canada's most significant artists, one of the few of her generation who was active painting in Western Canada. Her paintings are among the most valuable and sought after by a Canadian artist.
