In the late summer and the early fall of 1944 Taylor had a keen interest in painting the contribution of factory workers at the Lachine shops of Allis Chalmers toward the support of the war efforts. Lachine had long been the hub of industrial development in Montreal. Taylor painted not only at Allis Chalmers (Bullock), an industrial giant of its day but also Dominion Engineering Works located also in the area, the eastern part of Lachine. Additionally, Taylor went across to the South Shore in Longueuil at Fairchild Aircraft Limited to find subject matter. Many of the works from these initiatives are in the collection of the National War Museum.
During World War ll, Allis Chalmers supplied numerous military products including anti-aircraft guns, propeller shafts for destroyers, cruisers and submarines, aircraft turbo superchargers, snow trailers, and tractors of various types.8sur 8
