In 1943, Rita Mount was honored with an exhibition of 60 works at the Quebec Museum, now Musée National des beaux-arts du Québec. The press reports of the vernissage describe her as “la peintre montréalaise de renom” (the renowned Montreal painter). Attended by the then former Prime Minister of Quebec Maurice Duplessis, Mr. & Mrs. Jean Paul Lemieux and Marius Barbeau among others. In his opening remarks Mr. Paul Rainville, the director of the museum said, “In her heart and in her hand, she holds [...] the blue skies of our great gulf and, through her strokes, the little boats belonging to our brave Gaspesian fishermen become as many luminous and serene naves, hulls shimmering in shades of gold and snow, ochre and crimson [1].”
An unattributed report in the French press read “Each one of Miss Rita Mount’s artworks is created with harmonious hues and exhales a characteristically gaspesian freshness”[2].
