There is a continuity in Surrey’s preoccupation with the interaction of cars and people, the loneliness of his urban dwellers and the mystery of the night, his stage illuminated by electric light. Here we have a rare appearance of their dog Daisy. It is notable that the female in the distance is in the crosswalk but clearly having walked against a red light. The skyline of the city lurks in the background masks in mauve haze.
