This work was cast in bronze to decorate Suzor Cote’s tombstone at the cemetery in Arthabaska. Thanks to Laurier Lacroix’s research we are provided with a note in a Montreal newspaper of 1906 in which a writer described a visit to Laliberté studio in Paris. Among the works that he saw in the studio, he wrote, “On the wall a plaster medallion of Suzor-Cote” (translation). Lacroix adds that Alfred Laliberte had first met Suzor-Cote upon his arrival in Paris in 1902. The two artists, originally from Bois-Franc Quebec, shared the Paris studio and remained friends throughout their careers.
