This particular area, right down by the port, is pretty much where Montreal began. These days there are archeological sites open which hint at the origins of the city. It is now protected as a heritage area. Extraordinarily, in the 1950s, one plan outlined in the Dozier Report for what eventually became the 720, a road I still refer to as the Bonaventure Expressway, had the route going directly through Old Montreal, along Rue de la Commune. In the language of John Little, we would have been a people without a past. Little has continually saved these photos for the family album.
