Albert Edward Cloutier, RCA, is an artist whose accomplishments have not been appropriately celebrated by our market. He made a living prior to and after WWll as a graphic designer and illustrator. He was closely associated with Edwin Holgate as a painting companion and also as a collaborator on a mural for the Canadian Pavilion at the New York’s World’s Fair in 1939. During the war years he was Art Director for the Wartime Information Board and then an official war artist for the Canadian Air Force, holding the rank of flight lieutenant.
Walter Klinkhoff was an admirer of Albert Cloutier’s painting and promoted it as much as was possible. He spoke encouragingly to a depressed Albert Cloutier over the telephone the evening before Cloutier was found dead at his home at Mont St. Hilaire.
