Painting by Toronto artist Alan Collier is Souvenir of 1972 Arctic Voyage

In 1972, the important Toronto-based artist, Alan Collier, traveled and painted in the Arctic as guest on the CCGS d'Iberville. In gratitude at a later date, he give this fine painting to its Captain, Captain Henri St-Pierre. The Canadian government ship, d'Iberville, was a post-Second World War icebreaker built by Davie Ship Building in 1953 in Lauzon, Quebec and was the first vessel through the St. Lawrence Seaway on April 25, 1959. She then sailed to England to represent Canada at Queen Elizabeth II's coronation review. As a Canadian Coast Guard ship d'Iberville made annual trips to the Arctic and worked in the Gulf of the St. Lawrence. The ship was decommissioned in 1983 and some years later sold for scrap.
