“William Henry Clapp left Canada for good in 1915, living in Cuba for two years before moving to California. In Cuba, he painted traditional bather compositions [...] injecting in the process a note of Gauguin exoticism into the Cuban countryside. Clapp uses the untrammelled quality of lush tropical vegetation to mirror the freedom of bathing au naturel in an untouched paradise.”
