In the exhibition catalogue Ken Danby: New Paintings, Danby reflects on the Kissing Bridge, a local landmark:
“This is the only covered bridge in Ontario, and it's just 15 minutes from our home. It's called Kissing Bridge because so many vehicles tend to pause within it rather than drive straight through... kind of a tradition. I've often thought about having a skate under this historical landmark, but every time I've dropped by with this in mind the ice has been unsafe. I decided to envision such an occasion by including myself within the work.” [1]
