Claude Le Sauteur
Claude Le Sauteur was a painter born on October 7, 1926 in the small town of Rivière-Pentecôte, located on Quebec's northern shore of the Saint Lawrence River. He studied at the École des beaux-arts de Québec from 1945 to 1950 under Jean-Paul Lemieux, Jean Dallaire and Omer Parent.
Le Sauteur is one of Québec's outstanding artists. His paintings demonstrate a strong sense of character yet one can feel the impact and continuity his teacher's instruction had on his work. Rooted in the Charlevoix region, he became an imposing figure of this region, devoted to art and heritage. Le Sauteur paints the reconciliation of man and nature.
His works reflect a plastic modernity built with great rigor and show a great sensitivity and a constant pictorial concern.
Le Sauteur died on November 29, 2007 at the age of 81.
